Ramen noodles: recipes & ideas
Level up your noodles
For a twist on a dorm room classic, try ramping up your ramen into a heartier meal. A few simple, dorm-friendly add ins will take your instant ramen from quick fix to school fuel.
- Soy sauce. For extra umami flavor, add a few drops of soy sauce to the cooked ramen broth. You can also add coconut aminos.
- Green onion. Sprinkle chopped green onion over cooked ramen for a kick of flavor and color.
- Sriracha. Spice up your ramen with sriracha. Or add red pepper flakes or jalapeno slices for a bit of heat.
- Dried seaweed. Add crumbled, dried seaweed to your prepared noodles for an extra delicious bite.
- Veggies. For added color and fiber, toss your favorite canned, fresh or frozen vegetables straight into your boiling water while your ramen noodles cook.
- Egg. Add some easy protein! All you need for a dorm-friendly fried egg is a microwave, cooking spray and two paper plates. Spray the bottom plate, crack your egg, place the top plate as a cover and microwave for one minute. If fried eggs aren’t your thing, add an O Organics® hard-boiled egg. Try soaking it overnight in the fridge with soy sauce and sesame oil.
Dorm room dinner is served! Shop all these ingredients, including your packaged ramen, in-store or online at Albertsons.

Return to college with options
Whether you’re going to college for the first time or returning for another year, you can find all your back-to-school meals at your local Albertsons. While living on campus means the cafeteria will do most of the cooking, there are still lots of breakfast and lunch opportunities. Early morning classes tend to make reaching for milk and cereal a convenient option. For special diets, keeping dairy-free options like almond milk and oat milk in your dorm fridge makes sense. Dry cereal can be stored easily and eaten anytime day or night.
Expand your lunch and dinner options with sandwiches, soups and noodles. Deli meat allows for getting smaller, dorm-friendly amounts. Ramen’s gotten quite the makeover in the last few years and adding in fresh vegetables only creates more combinations for delicious meals all year long.
The deli is a great way to enjoy filling meals without a lot of legwork. Delicious deli soups await, including chicken tortilla soup, steakhouse chili, chicken noodle and broccoli cheddar. The bakery has plenty of options for your sweet tooth, including cakes, cookies, muffins and more.
Ready to meet new people? A meat and cheese party tray will certainly make it easier, and leftovers can go into a mini fridge or a community fridge with ease. After all, finger foods are a great way to break the ice and socialize.
Commuting back and forth to college is more popular than ever, but it does mean planning back to school food options differently. An insulated lunch bag, fruit and a thermos open the doors to great food and treats on the go. Taking care of meals on the fly means you have one less task on your to-do list, freeing your mind up for studying, meeting new people and making the grade. Shop online in the app or at your local Albertsons for great college-friendly back to school food options.
