Questions? We’re here to help!

What medicines can my pharmacist prescribe?

Your pharmacist may be able to prescribe the medication you need to treat the conditions listed above. Services vary by location, and not all services are available in every state.  We recommend calling ahead to make sure your local pharmacy is offering the service you need.

Why should I have my pharmacist prescribe medicine for me?

We offer a convenient one-stop solution with evening and weekend hours, where you already need to go to fill your medicine. For example, you can get tested for strep throat, have your medicines prescribed right on site, pick up over-the-counter supplies for symptom relief, and get the groceries you need, so you can rest and recover with less running around town. Other medicines need to be replaced quickly* if lost or used up– like a rescue inhaler, epinephrine pen, or naloxone nasal spray – we’ve got you covered there, too.

*Coverage for early refill requests varies by insurance plan.

Will my insurance pay for this?

We can bill almost all prescription insurance plans for your medicine. The visit with the pharmacist might have a fee that could also be covered, but this depends on your insurance plan. If it is not covered, the price should be similar to a copay on most plans. Ask your pharmacy team about the service you need and they can let you know!

Can your pharmacist be my primary care provider?

Our goal is to open up more options for you to get quick treatment for simple conditions. We can also give you immunizations, administer medications, provide point-of-care lab tests, and take care of your travel health needs. We will never replace your primary care provider, but we’d love to work with them as part of your healthcare team.

How will my primary care provider know about any new medicines that the pharmacist provides?

As a member of your healthcare team, your pharmacist understands how important it is to have all your health conditions and medicines together in one place. Let us know who your primary care provider is, and we will send them the record after your visit. If you don’t have a primary care provider, we can share some local options.

What if I don’t get better and need follow-up care?

For some services – like influenza – we will give you a call in a few days to see how you are doing on the new medicine. We always encourage you to call our pharmacists with concerns about your condition or to ask about side effects. If you ever need care urgently, please visit the emergency room or call 911.

How can I best prepare for my visit with the pharmacist?

While most of the services are provided on a walk-in basis, we recommend that you call ahead to make sure your preferred pharmacy is offering the service you need and find out the best time to come.  The process will go smoothest if you have a list of your allergies, medical conditions, and other medications handy. You might want to think about any treatments you’ve tried in the past for the condition you’re being seen for and be ready to share how that worked for you. If you have insurance, don’t forget your medical and pharmacy insurance cards.
